Test instructions:

Max is a new intern in a corporate office. Despite his rather dreary life, he is still a hopeless romantic at heart. Dmitri, his boss, is cold and distant. Yet, his looks and rare moments of kindness leave him impossible to ignore. How do you continue working when you’re attracted to your boss?

Start To Test

Ring… Ring… RING!

“For goodness’ sake, Max, pick up the damn phone!”

“Huh?”

“Who would have guessed it? Max is zoning out again.”

Max can hear laughter around him as his co-worker mocks him… again. It’s not his fault that he has a tendency for daydreaming!

“What’s so funny? I would love to be included in this joke.”

Everyone was silent as a new figure entered the office. Max looks up...

Max looks up to see a man in the doorway, dressed in what had to be a $1,000 suit, standing tall at 6.6’. He had a harsh glare on his face as if the world itself was in his way.

Not that Max was looking closely, he certainly wasn’t.

Who am I kidding. This is the first attractive man I've seen in the office.

Dmitri levels a glare at the office before looking down at a piece of paper in his hands.

“So these are the corporate offices of Huna Inc. Interesting.”

He surveys the floor, taking note of the drab cubicles and water-stained ceilings.

Their eyes meet, and Max squeaks. Dmitri starts to approach his cubicle. Does he stand his ground or try to hide?

Stand his ground
Look away

There’s a look of approval on Dmitri’s face.

“My name is Dmitri. I’m going to be your new boss. Let me know if they start bothering you again, and I’ll deal with it.”

The man hesitates a bit before backing up. He addresses the room.

“My name is Dmitri. I’m your boss, and I expect you to behave appropriately. That is all, now get back to work.”

Max walks past the kennels of the shelter. He crouches in front of golden retriever and her new litter of puppies.

Though he wishes to adopt every animal he sees, volunteering was a less expensive alternative.

“Hello, mama, how are you and the puppies doing today? Aww, look at you all. So cute!”

“Someone’s a dog person.”

“EEK!”

Max spins around, the dog food he was holding spilling everywhere.

“MR. DMITRI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?”

“Mr. Dmitri? Please, just call me Dmitri. I could ask you the same question.”

“Well, I volunteer here. I really like animals, but my apartment doesn’t allow anything more than a hamster.”

This is so awkward. He looks so out of place with the cute animals. I need to find a way to help him loosen up.

Help him personally
Find an employee

“Here, you can feed them!”

“Are you sure? I don’t want to do anything inappropriate.”

Max helps Dmitri feed the dogs. Slowly, the tension leaks from Dmitri’s shoulders as the puppies climb all over them.

“Heh, you’re really good at this. Truth be told, I’ve been looking for a companion for my new place.”

“Well, I’m glad I could help.”

“Well, here, let me get someone who can help you. I’ll be right back.”

“Oh, thank you. I suppose I will see you in the office then.”

Alex leaned in, and their lips met, his pulse racing. His eyes close, and… BANG

Max’s reading is interrupted by a fist slamming against the lunch table.

It's the manager.

“Excuse me, what do you think you’re doing?!”

“T-taking my lunch break?”

“And who told you to do that? Because I certainly didn’t.”

“It’s company policy, sir. I’ve been working 6 hours without a break.”

“Aww, is it company policy? Does little Maxie need a break? As long as you’re working for me, you work until I tell you to stop. Got it?”

Max wasn’t surprised at the outburst. For some reason, his manager always found issues with him.

“You’re fired.”

“Mr. Dmitri! I promise I wasn’t- I mean, it’s company policy and I- ”

“Not you, him.”

Dmitri points at Max’s manager, a cold expression on his face.

“Wait- what?’

“I found you disregarding company policy. Not to mention the hate speech towards an employee. So again, You. Are. Fired.”

Max was shocked. No one had ever defended him like that.

It was honestly kind of attractive.

No matter what Max did, he couldn’t get Dmitri out of his head.

But what should I do about it? It is my boss, for goodness’ sake!

Confess
Don't confess

“Dmitri... I have something I need to talk to you about….”

“Ahh, Max. I hope you are doing well after the incident.”

“Yeah… well, that’s kind of what I wanted to talk to you about. I really respect you for doing that for me. Well, I- I- find you, attractive sir!”

“Oh..”

“I know you don’t feel the same way, but I wanted to confess anyway-”

‘Wait, Max, hold on. I’m not going to lie- I-I find you attractive too… but it would be inappropriate. I’m sorry.”

“I understand. I wish things would be different….”

”... me too.”

The whole thing was painful. Max was losing sleep, and it was reflecting poorly in his work. Something had to change, but what?

Things were awkward around Dmitri. Ever since Max had developed feelings for his boss, his professional life had been going downhill.

Ughh… Why can’t I get him out of my head?

Nevertheless, the quarter had ended, and it was time for the annual staff party.

Max was set on having a good time.

“Hey Max- I heard what happened with the old manager. I’m sorry that happened to you. I always knew he was a bad guy.”

“Yeah… Thank you. He was always a real jerk.”

Max’s co-worker slides an arm around his shoulders.

“You know, this might be the wine talking, but I’ve always had a kind of crush on you.”

“R-really?”

“Yeah, you’re so cute and small! What do you say, Maxie?”

Umm, I’m not exactly interested in him, but maybe it’s just the thing to get my mind off of Dmitri.

“Wait! Max... I have something to say to you- don’t go with him.”

“Hey man, I was here first!”

'I got an offer - a job offer at a different division uptown. That's why I want to talk to you.'
